Catholic Vitamin Y Yearner

Bonnie Engstrom (and her husband Travis) became a YEARNER…. yearning for the help and intercession of the late Archbishop Fulton Sheen. Yearning for the birth of (at that time) their third child. All went beautifully. The home-birth seemed mystical and spiritually guided. Until Jame Fulton was born. That was when the clock started; and for the next 61 minutes of prayer, drama, concern and an air-flight to the hospital took place. Efforts seemed destined to fail, as doctors and medical staff were ready to call a Code situation: James Fulton Engstrom was dead. One hour and one minute dead.

When all of a sudden, Jame’s heart started beating. 147 bpm. But surely he would be a ‘vegetable.’ Or blind. Probably strapped to a wheelchair if he lived long enough to ever be seated in one.

Well today, James Fulton is 10 years of age. Mom Bonnie says he rides his bike, he loves chicken nuggets… James is a healthy ‘normal’ boy. Except he’s the recipient of the prayers and intercession of Archbishop Fulton Sheen. Thanks be to God!

This story is told in the lovely OSV book “61 Minutes To a Miracle; Fulton Sheen and a True Story of the Impossible.”
